The Quarry Prologue image1

Into the Woods is the prologue of The Quarry. It takes place at night between June 24-25, 2021, two months before the main events of the game. The player controls Laura as she, along with her boyfriend Max, drives to Hackett's Quarry summer camp.

23:50 | June 24th[]

As the game opens, a mysterious creature seen moving through the trees and stalking a car driving along a road. The perspective switches to the car, where Laura turns off the music. When Max asks why she did this, Laura replies that they are lost. Suddenly, the car bumps something on the road, causing Max's phone to fall as Laura tries to catch it. This moment introduces the player to QTEs.

The couple discusses the beginning of bad roads and again that they are lost, after which Laura turns to the backseat to grab a flyer or a map from her bag. This moment introduces the player to choices. Max is distracted by what Laura is holding and as he looks at the road, he notices something standing there. Trying to avoid it, Max swerves the car and as a result, they run into the woods.

After making sure they are in one piece, the couple discusses what was on the road and if they hit it. Max inspects the car and, finding it stalled, asks Laura to bring him the tool box from the trunk. Laura retrieves the tool box, but is also able to snoop through Max's things and find his letter of rejection from the university. This moment introduces the player to interrupts. In any case, Laura hands Max the tools and while waiting for him to fix the car, she notices a woman's silhouette behind the trees. Laura goes deep into the woods, but Max tells her not to go far.

  • If Laura says Max isn't her boss, she goes alone and accidentally slides down a muddy area.
  • If Laura orders Max to come over, he will help her carefully slide down into a muddy area.

While exploring the woods, Laura begins to hear whispers around her, prompting her to look around in all directions. As she hears whispers right under her ear, Laura panics and runs back to the car. While running, Laura must perform 2 QTEs to avoid stumbling. After returning to Max and explaining what happened, the couple hurriedly runs back into the car. As they are about to drive away, they realize that the car can't move because of friction on the dirt. The couple begins to argue, but they quickly calm down, reassuring themselves that they are safe in the car.

Travis telling the couple to go to the harbinger motel

Suddenly, the couple is startled by Sheriff Travis when Laura sees him at the car window. After Travis asks the couple if they are ok, he goes to check on the car then asks the couple on how they crashed. Laura can say that they just swerved off the road or something jumped out onto the road, and in the second case she can also say that it was an animal or it was dark and they didn't see it. Either way, Travis helps the couple get back on the road.

Back on the road, Travis continues to interrogate the couple on why they are here late at night and they tell the sheriff they are going to Hackett's Quarry summer camp, as they are the new counselors. After hearing their reasonings, Travis begins strongly advising the couple to go to the Harbinger motel instead of the camp and asks Laura to get out of the car so he can show them the way. As Laura gives him a map, she sneakily tricks him into showing her where Hackett's Quarry is.

  • If Laura went into the woods alone and/or failed QTEs, Travis will notice dirt on her face and will try to wipe it off, to which Laura can hold still or recoil backwards.

Travis returns to his car and the couple, with a sigh of relief, comment on his creepiness. Max is about to drive to the motel and asks Laura for the road, but she points to Hackett's Quarry, convincing Max not to take advice from some creepy cop, and he agrees.

Max and Laura

Arriving at Hackett's Quarry, Laura and Max are disappointed to find no one in the camp. The couple quarrels again, as Laura has simply left a voicemail to Mr. Hackett instead of calling him. Max gets upset and walks away to his car while Laura decides to look around the lodge. As they approach the entrance to the bunker, Laura notices someone inside. Thinking they need help, Laura calls Max and opens the lock with one of her tools (a hammer or wrenchs).

Once downstairs, Max waits for Laura at the stairs while she examines the bunker and finds a recently eaten body. Max starts to talk Laura into going to a motel for the night and checking out the camp the next morning when something pounces on him and drags him around the corner. Going after Max, Laura finds him seriously wounded in the shoulder, after which she is given a choice: leave Max, help him, or do nothing:

If Laura chooses to save or leave Max, she escapes the bunker while Max is again attacked by the creature. As Laura watches in horror, someone sneaks up behind her and puts her to sleep with a syringe. Laura falls unconscious and that person turns out to be Travis, who shoots several times into the bunker.

If Laura did nothing, both she and Max will be attacked by the creature when Travis appears and shoots several times at the bunker.

Either way, Travis angrily yells at the couple for going to the camp instead of the motel. The camera flies away from the bunker and looks at the full moon and the game's title before the screen slowly turns to black.
