— Travis after sedating Laura
|
Travis Hackett is a major character and the secondary antagonist in The Quarry. He is the sheriff of the small town of North Kill, located in Upstate New York. He was voiced and motion captured by Ted Raimi.
Appearance[]
He wears a black police uniform with a tie and sheriff insignia - attached to this is a radio system.
Personality[]
“ | Sheriff of the small town of North Kill, Upstate New York, Travis swore an oath to protect and serve—and that's exactly what he does. | ” |

|
He has a cold and collected personality, always trying to just be done with what he's doing in the most unsettling way possible, even though he does it unintentionally.
He is initially presented as an abusive "bad sheriff", but he is not a malevolent character - he wants nothing more than to save his family, and is willing to work with the counselors to achieve this. He will, however, and when he considers it necessary, aggressively pursue this goal in a manner some might consider unethical at times.
Paradoxically, he is shown to have a hard time hurting people - as he can tell Laura, when she asks him why he had not used the syringe on Max before his transformation, that sedate this last would be "fucking hard to do"-, and will do his best to avoid it.
His tries to calm everyone down during the chapter 9 could also be elements going in this sense.
The Quarry[]
Biography[]
Travis is the standoffish sheriff of the small town of North Kill, Upstate New York. He has sworn an oath to protect and serve the people of the town and other residents who live near it such as Hackett's Quarry. Even if sometimes he is shown to be more of a creepy helper by most people.
It was unknown what he had done in his early life, possibly having been in the US military and/or a deputy sheriff in his younger years. It was revealed that his predecessor was Sheriff Miller (Hank), who perished in the Harum Scarum fire. Following Hank's death, Travis was elected the new sheriff. However, in a heated conversation with his mother, she angrily lashes out that she felt her son got elected undeservedly and only succeeding Hank on account of his death.
Involvement[]
Prologue[]
Travis finding the crashed car
Travis shows up after finding a crashed car in the woods, and after shocking the two individuals (Max and Laura), he interrogates them on how they crashed then pulls their vehicle back on the road, he angrily asks them why they are here late at night, in which Laura tells him that they are going to Hackett's Quarry.
Travis eerily tells the couple to go to the Harbinger motel
After Laura tells him their plan, Travis eerily says that they should go to the Harbinger Motel instead of the camp. When Laura disagrees, he tells her to get out of the car so he can mark a route on their map to the motel. Unfortunately, she is able to trick him into showing her the camp's location on the map. After this, he goes back to his car and watches them from afar.
Travis after sedating Laura
Travis is next seen after Laura and Max are attacked in the storm shelter. Laura, if she escaped from the shelter, is sedated and Travis will fire his pistol into the bunker, angrily yelling that this isn't the Harbinger Motel.
Chapter 7[]
In a flashback to the days immediately following the prologue, it is revealed that Max had survived, and Travis imprisoned the two counselors at the police department. The morning after, he interrogated both Laura and Max on their activities during the past night, including why they did not go to the motel.
He kept them imprisoned for weeks, and they unsuccessfully attempted to escape on July 12. He forces Laura to witness Max's transformation on July 23 (the next full moon). The following night, he then shows Max the video of the transformation while opening up to Laura about his family and the attacks and other events at the camp. He is shown to be in contact with the other Hacketts via radio during this time.
On August 10, Chris finds out that Laura and Max are still in jail, and confronts Travis about it. It is revealed that Travis shot Chris, who was attacking Max in the prologue, and that he scrapped their car the following day at the scrapyard. On August 22, Laura and Max escape from the police station, and Travis will be subdued or shot by Laura.
Chapter 9[]
He is then seen at the Hackett house. He will attempt to deconflict Laura and his family members during a standoff, and later on he will be present when Laura, Ryan, and a transformed Chris fall through the ceiling. Here he can potentially stab Laura to death with a shard of a silver-backed mirror and/or get shot by Laura or Ryan; if he survives he will either crawl out, lock Laura in the basement or agree to work with Laura and Ryan to kill Silas, the progenitor of the curse of Hackett's Quarry.
Chapter 10[]
If he agrees to work with the counselors, he will drive them to the site of the freakshow fire - they will be rudely interrupted by Silas, who mounts the car and attempts to kill them. If the trio survive, they will run over Silas and then follow him on foot to the broken cage, where he is recovering from his wounds. Travis can be shot by Laura or decapitated by an awoken Silas; if not, he has survived until dawn.

Constance and Jedediah[]
Travis's parents. He still addresses them in a subservient manner, and will be devastated if they get killed.
Trivia[]
- The nickname "T-money," given to Travis by Max, may be a reference to an extra from the Xena Season 4 DVD which features Ted Raimi.
